This is the capital city of Copperbelt province. It is the third-largest city in Zambia and the second oldest city in the country after Livingstone. It was formed in 1904 where it began as a trading post.
Today, the city has established itself as a light industry sector and commercial centre. It has a copper refinery, metallurgical plant, tire factory, auto assembly plant, sugar refinery among others. It is also the sole producer of limestone in the country that makes cement, and home to the Times Printpak which is the company that produces the country’s national newspaper called the Times of Zambia.
